Flower service

Join us for our flower service to celebrate beauty, diversity and community. You are invited to contribute to the service by bringing a flower or flowers to exchange with others. It may be one that you have grown yourself, or one that is a particular favourite, or a flower that has special associations - a memory of a loved one perhaps. You may regard this flower as in some way representing yourself. The significance of the Flower Communion (the exchange of flowers) is that just as no two flowers are alike, so no two people are alike, yet each has a contribution to make. Together individual flowers form a beautiful bouquet and so it is with our church community – it would not be the same without each and every one of us. By exchanging flowers, we show our willingness to walk together in our search for truth, putting aside all that might divide us. Each person takes home a flower brought by someone else – thus symbolizing our shared celebration in community. If you can’t bring a flower, however, don’t worry; just come as you are and enjoy the occasion. As always, you will be most welcome.

We will be listening to a talk by Professor Patrick Grimm about Eastern perspectives on mind and body philosophy. As Unitarians we are open to ideas from different spiritual traditions. How have ideas from faiths such as Hinduism and Buddhism affected our outlook? How might we look at troubling subjects such as human suffering? Discussion will follow. All are welcome.

Congregational meeting

Congregational meeting and discussion on General Assembly (GA) Motions. Each year at the GA Annual Meetings, a number of Resolutions are put forward which are then debated and finally voted on.   All congregations are invited to send delegates to represent them at these Annual Meetings and, therefore, they need direction from their Members as to how they should vote.   Our delegate this year will be Jo O’Sullivan who has kindly offered to represent Horsham Unitarians.

Members have an opportunity to discuss and vote on the Motions  being put forward and our meeting should, hopefully, provide guidance for Jo when the time comes for her to vote on our behalf at the GA.
