'New Perspectives' Discussion Group
For this evening we will be listening to a talk by Prof. Yuval Noah Harari called “Beyond Boundaries: Redefining Humanity in the Age of Innovation.” Prof. Yuval Noah Harari is a historian, philosopher, and a bestselling author of numerous books which have sold over 50 million copies worldwide. A discussion will follow the talk which lasts for about 30 minutes. All are welcome.
Explaining Unitarianism
Café Sunday led by Janet Perkins, themed ‘Explaining Unitarianism’.
Holocaust Memorial Day Service
Our Minister will hold a short afternoon service on this date to mark remembrance, not only of the over six million Jews executed by the Nazis but also of the myriad of other victims around the world who have perished from hatred and conflict in the decades which followed.
Challenging our prejudices
Café service which will examine those prejudices which so many of us are perhaps reluctant to acknowledge.
“New Perspectives” Bible Discussion Group
For just over two years our Bible discussion group has been meeting to learn about The Hebrew Bible and the New Testament from a mainly historical perspective. We haven’t covered it all by any means, but now we hope to take a new direction with our discussions and are currently considering what this should be.
Do get in touch if you have a view. This meeting will therefore be the last in the current format. We’ll finish by taking a look at The Book of Revelation. It should be, well, revealing!
Café Sunday
So, this is 2026. Clean slate - blank canvas.
What should Horsham Unitarians be doing this year? Fundraising? Promoting ourselves? Book group? Focussed discussion groups on . . . ? New types of services? Creative workshop? Flying the flag for different causes? Or, carry on as we have been doing?
What would YOU want to be involved in?
Put your thinking caps on and come to the first Café Sunday of this brand new year.
In between Christmas and New Year Café Sunday
An informal gathering in the hall for refreshments and seasonal conversation. This will be followed by a short congregational meeting at 11.20 to choose our next charity.
Feel free to bring:
- A little portion of something nice to eat for sharing at your table.
- A seasonal poem, reading, story, anecdote, New Year’s resolutions etc., for sharing with the whole group.
We’ll have our chalice lighting and closing words. If you would like to participate in these, let me know.
Tea and coffee will be provided as usual.
Faith and Community
Patrick will be leading this Cafe Sunday during which we will consider whether we have the right balance between our faith and our Horsham Unitarian community. Is there too much of one and not enough of the other? What is the correct balance? This will be a good opportunity to explore this question together.
Mysticism and music
Interfaith minister Jenny Miller will be returning to Horsham to take our service on 16th November with music and mysticism as the theme. This should be a wonderful hour, especially as we will be treated to live music: Andrew Wickens on the violin and James Marchant on the organ . Each of these gifted musicians will be playing a solo piece.
Pocket FUSE: Building Positive Structures and Cultures in Congregations
This Autumn Pocket Fuse, entitled Building Positive Structures and Cultures in Congregations, will be led by led by James Croft. It will explore how our congregations can build sustainable and resilient structures and cultures able to absorb shocks without falling or relapsing into conflict. Please note: Horsham congregation members wishing to attend must book a place in advance at www.ldpaunitarians.org/pocket-fuse. It is hoped that our congregation will be well represented.
New Perspectives Bible Discussion Group
At this meeting on 12th November we will be hearing from Professor Bart Ehrman about “The Book of Hebrews and Rise of Christian Anti-Semitism.” All are welcome, even if you have not previously attended.
